De naald wordt afgestoft…
Shoegaze, bluegrass, and Atlantic Canada's oldest metal.
CHSR started as a University of New Brunswick student club and went to air on 22 January 1961 as Radio UNB, founded by Barry Yoell, which makes it one of the oldest campus stations in the country and a founding member of the national campus radio association. Funding fights with student government were a recurring feature until a 1999 agreement locked the media fee behind a petition and a referendum. The 250-watt transmitter sits on a UNB rooftop; the studio is in the student building UNB shares with St. Thomas.
The station is volunteer-owned outright, and its record library — six decades of vinyl, tape and CDs, the largest east of Montreal — is the reason the shows can go as deep as they do. Crazy Train has been Atlantic Canada's metal show for decades, Diversions takes the opera and classical, Bluegrass Fiesta the hills. CHSR Sessions records visiting bands live off the floor.
Everyone here chose to be.
