NEU Radio — Nuova Emittente Urbana — went on air in 2018, started in Bologna by a group of authors, journalists, presenters and DJs who wanted somewhere for free expression in whatever form it turned up. Since 2019 it has broadcast from two places in the city rather than one: a studio at Baumhaus, in the park of the old railway workers' club, and a second built inside MAMbo, the city's museum of modern art. A cultural association named Humus carries the operation, podcasts and live performances included.

Around forty live shows fill the week, each with a named host: Alberto Simoni's Area Contaminata on electronica, post-punk, techno and ambient; Enzo Baruffaldi on new indie pop and indie rock; Cristian Adamo running beats, soul, jazz and funk. Cinema gets its own slots, and the station broadcasts live from festivals and venues across the city — Covo, Locomotiv, Gender Bender, Biografilm.
