The Bijlmer on air: Lagos, Paramaribo, Kingston.
RAZO is the radio of Amsterdam Zuidoost, and of the Bijlmer in particular — the high-rise district that took in Surinamese, Ghanaian, Nigerian and Antillean Amsterdam. SALTO is Amsterdam's public-access foundation, and RAZO is one of its four radio channels, which means the programmes come from the neighbourhood rather than from a newsroom: the Pan-African Media and Development Agency makes Voice of Naija, Stichting SURI*STARS makes Arki a Tori, and Stichting Vice Versa makes obaatan pa.
Thirty-odd shows fill the week. Africa Impressions and Black Stars work the highlife and afrobeat end, Radio Akasanoma carries the Ghanaian hours, Ethiopia United Radio the Horn, Roots & Culture and Let's Be Iree hold the reggae, El vacilon musical latino takes the Latin slot, and a run of Bible hours and a Moravian church service from EBG-Zuidoost fill out the Sunday.
Zuidoost speaks for itself.
