Freeform community radio from Norway's rainiest city.
Fraser Keddie started it in 2018 on a straightforward observation: Bergen had DJs, podcasters and people who wanted to make radio, and nowhere for any of them to learn how. So the station teaches — how to plan an hour, work a microphone, cue the records, promote the result — and lets people rehearse as long as they need before anything goes out live. A small paid staff keeps the place running on money from Kulturrom, the city council and Vestland county, and the voices you hear on air are all volunteers.
Hosts tag their own shows, and the tag list has grown to take in amapiano, krautrock, j-core, northern soul and 4th world. Isdalen builds an hour out of whatever is hanging in the city's galleries, Alvedans runs prog into psytrance, and Astral Journeys keeps to ambient and jazz. The Borealis experimental festival broadcasts from here, and Pride week hands over the schedule entirely.
Bergen's open door, on air.
