Espeeera...
Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
A whole mountain town's record collection, on air.
Four Taos outfits — the promoters behind Roots and Wires, Walking Rain Productions, the culture site LiveTaos.com and the crew at Taos Mesa Brewing — pooled their money for the 93.5 license and put KNCE on air on 21 October 2014, convinced that a town this full of musicians deserved a signal of its own. The studio is a 1978 Airstream Excella parked out on the mesa beside the brewery's Mothership stage, and the roster has grown from sixty-five volunteers in the early days to more than a hundred Taos County hosts.
The grid is freeform in the literal sense: gospel and classical, then blues, jazz standards, Latin sides, Native music, hip hop and cosmic cowboy country strung across the week, each hour picked by whoever is holding it. Somebody is live in the trailer through the day and into the night, every day of the week, and no format clock tells them what comes next.
Every hour belongs to someone.
