Marburg's free radio: jazz after dark, metal, cold wave.
A first small-group meeting in April 1994 turned into an association two months later, and RUM spent the next three years building towards a frequency: workshops, an office, event radio for an Anne Frank exhibition and for the Mittelhessischer Kultursommer. In June 1996 it moved into the old locomotive depot on the Waggonhallen site, the licence came that October, and it went on air on 90.1 in April 1997. Around 280 members and 120 active programme-makers hold it there, at desks that since 1999 have been built to be worked blind.
It runs 24 hours with roughly forty per cent talk and a music colour it files under bunt-alternativ. Plattenbau plays vinyl only; Parkinsongs takes rock, blues and folk from the sixties to the eighties; rest/geräusche deals in electronic noise; Musikalische Verbrechen promises music you will not find anywhere else. Magazines go out in Persian, Italian, Spanish and English.
Unerhört means unheard, on purpose.
