Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
Feminist freeform from Oslo, on air since 1982.
The money came from a women's culture festival, and the station went on air on 16 October 1982 calling itself the world's oldest women's radio, a claim nobody has seriously contested since. The administration sits on the third floor of Blitzhuset on Pilestredet, the Oslo activist house, and around a hundred volunteers keep 99.3 on the dial. Hanne Rye Hanssen carries editorial responsibility and Synne Klovning runs the music desk. Somewhere near 1,500 people have learned to make radio there, which may be the larger achievement.
House rule: at least half the music must be by women or queer artists. Within that the forty-odd shows go where they please — the station's own summary runs from the strangest punk voices to hard-hitting country, by way of experimental journalism, comedy and investigative radio drama. Barrikaderock takes the loud end, Konseptronika and Nattlyd the electronic one, and Democracy Now! lands daily.
Four decades of talking back.
