Espeeera...
Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
New wave to rumbling dubstep, out of a DIY bar.
Jon Cornbill started it in June 2021 inside The Lubber Fiend, the volunteer-run space on Blandford Street that gave Newcastle somewhere to put the music nobody else was booking. The roster has since grown to around a hundred and twenty residents. On its fourth birthday in June 2025 the building opened an accessible studio and a kitchen, launched with Mutant Radio from Tbilisi, whose insistence that music and political resistance are the same argument the station takes as its own.
Nearly everything is cut live in the room rather than sent in: Juiced, Lumenal Fabrics, HeadZ, Wildflowers, Past Times, Cyanotic Gloom, even keel, Urbanism, micro cope. Residents drift from cold synths through beatless stretches into low-end heavy enough to move the floorboards, and broadcasts get traded outward — Mutant in Tbilisi, L.E.V Festival in Spain.
