Espeeera...
Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
Brussels free radio, run by its own collectives.
A group organising against racism and for human rights put it on air in 1983, and wrote their reason into the statutes: sociocultural promotion across Brussels, and the emancipation of individuals within respect for cultural difference. That placed it in the first generation of Belgian free radios treated as engagées. It has moved between addresses in Saint-Josse and Schaerbeek since, drawing support from the French Community since 2006 and recognition as an adult-education association since 2011.
Autonomous collectives hold their own hours rather than answering to a central desk, so the week runs from Les Carnets tracking the rock, metal and noise agenda to Congo Na Biso and Djiboutik on the city's diasporas, A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again on whatever it feels like, and Le Mange Disque filling the gaps with records and nothing said.
Militant since 1983, still is.
