Espeeera...
Quitando el polvo a la aguja…
Lisbon's underground, from soundtracks to noise.
Rádio Quântica started in Lisbon in 2015, put together by a spread of artists and crews, and broadcasts from the Planeta Manas studio in Prior Velho, out on the city's northern edge. Around a hundred authored shows and more than a hundred and seventy resident artists pass through it, and the point of the thing is who gets the microphone: it was built for people whose room on mainstream platforms is small or non-existent, and the roster reflects that in backgrounds, identities and origins alike.
What comes out of it runs from soundtracks and noise at one end to techno, reggaeton and club music at the other, with jazz, R&B, funk and hip-hop in between and talk threaded through. It keeps a label going as well — one compilation handed its takings to a Lisbon anti-racist organisation — plus club nights, DJ and production workshops, and Luzes, a radio-concert series.
A safe haven with a mixer.
