Detroit techno and house, taught by its elders.
Deep Space Radio is a collective rather than a station with an owner: Detroit artists and DJs pooling the city's electronic music with the art and writing that grew up beside it. Jessica Care Moore's poetry, Keith Tucker's records and Alan Oldham's drawings all sit under the same masthead, and the stated aim is to do for the next generation what the Electrifying Mojo and Jeff Mills did for theirs. Friends of Detroit techno and Detroit house are invited in to make programming that airs nowhere else.
Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, DJ Minx, Santonio Echols and Detroit Techno Militia all hold slots, alongside Submerge's Soulful Underground. The week leads on techno and house — gospel house on Sunday mornings — with dub techno, IDM and ambient on Futurecurrent, deep house and liquid drum and bass on Binural Frequencies, and broken beat on Addicted 2 Bass. Its own first compilation went out on a limited 12-inch.
Machine soul, first hand.
