Korean city pop, 1970 to whatever dropped last week.
City Pop Two took the second route in December 2020, five months after Tokyo, and it is the channel that refuses to stay in the past. DJ Allie and DJ White Velvet programme it for m·radio as Korean city pop from 1970 to the present — the disco funk and AOR the term originally covered, plus the indie sophisti-pop that came after — so a record cut under military rule can hand over to something released last year without the seam showing. The framing is a Seoul night drive with a conversation you cannot stop replaying.
The evidence is in the running order: Kim Wan Sun from 1989 and Lee Sang Eun from 1990 sitting beside Risso in 2015 and a remixed NewJeans track from 2022, with Taeyeon queued behind them. Nothing is announced and nothing is dated on air, so the decades blur into one another at the speed the songs happen to arrive — which is the whole argument the channel is making.
The goodbye you keep replaying.
