Turin, Berlin and Barcelona on one community signal.
Radio Banda Larga started in Turin in 2011 and put out its first transmission on 25 April 2012 from the terrace of the Imbarchino, the cultural centre in the Parco del Valentino; the office sits across town on Via Baltea. It has since become three hubs — Turin, Berlin, Barcelona — with hundreds of contributors between them, each city running its own live sessions and events. Nobody is paid and nothing is sold: the money comes from the community, from public grants and from the events themselves.
Sixty-odd resident shows carry it, and the station's own per-show tags give away where the weight sits: ambient and dub above everything else, then downtempo, bass, broken beat, jazz and soul. Echo Head works dub techno, Sincopatica breaks, Soul Food Transistor roots and Panica Pancake cosmic disco. WOMEX has brought the station in to rebuild the expo's radio studio.
Togethercore, their word.
