Christian John started Radio Wigwam in 2016 to give bands with no label behind them some airplay, and he has fronted the BANDwagon Show, his pick of new independent music from anywhere, for years. A yearly indie awards night in London followed from 2018, along with showcases at The Bedford, Focus Wales and Wokingham Festival. The presenters now sit across Britain, Ireland, Canada, Australia and the US, many of them working musicians, and in 2026 the station went out on DAB in the Peak District.
Guitars run most of the week, alt and indie rock next to hard rock and the odd metalcore band, with older records mixed in so the new ones have company. Jeff Burson's SYNTHscape goes darkwave and futurepop, Simon Edwards's Loose Canon digs into no wave and noise rock, Reckless Blues keeps a weekly hour of blues, and the rotation between shows is mostly emerging artists.
