Hooold...
Dusting off the needle…
Proto-techno, boogie B-sides and juke-joint blues.
Blue Moon went on air in 2023, started by Detroiters who could not find an entry-level room in the city where being new at it was the point rather than a problem. There is no boss: nine people run the station between them, paid for by Patreon subscriptions and merch sales, and the resident host slots open twice a year to whoever puts their name in. It has no permanent studio of its own yet, so Saturdays go out live from MoonDog and the rest of the week comes in from wherever the hosts happen to be.
Ausar's Progressive Music traces the post-disco fusion Detroiters were making before techno had a name, Planet KaiA runs a femme techno collective out of the station, Vespre digs soul, gospel and funk recorded between '78 and '84, Tea Sankara follows the blues back to where American music started, and MuĞen plays video game soundtracks. First-timers share the grid with decades-deep DJs.
New hands on an old lineage.
