Dusting off the needle…
Club music and open argument, in equal measure.
Ossia spent the 2010s as a nomadic club series, throwing parties around the country, then rebranded in 2020 to put panels and social issues alongside the bookings. Lockdown turned that into podcasts, and in June 2021 the crew took a unit on Lower Stable Street in Coal Drops Yard, King's Cross, and started broadcasting. A pop-up bar on the same street and a second studio at Mare Street Market carry part of the running costs. The producers split evenly by gender, and free workshops open the studio to emerging talent.
Over 350 contributors fill a schedule of well past 150 shows a week, and every day is tuned to sound like itself rather than to a house style: Run the Riddim and There Will Be Bleeps on one side, Queer Folk, nonclassical and the Sunday Soul Cleanse on the other. Talk runs inside the same grid, from politics and fashion to activism and live sessions, with more than fifty freelancers paid.
