Tiki-torch pop, spy-movie strings, and cocktail psych.
LuxuriaMusic has been streaming out of Hollywood since 2000, a long run by the standards of internet radio, and it is held by a foundation rather than by an owner, paid for by listener sponsorship drives. The people on air are professionals from the record business and its margins: Chuck Kelley, who picked music for Pulp Fiction; Andrew Sandoval of Rhino Records; Kristian Hoffman, who played with Klaus Nomi; The Millionaire from Combustible Edison. Reissue producers and pop historians fill out the roster.
Between shows a house rotation called Luxotron 10000 keeps the register: surf, bossa nova, exotica, space-age bachelor pad, soft-psych, sunshine pop, go-go, Latin and film and television music, blended into what the station calls its highly intoxicating and sometimes hallucinatory sound. Several of the songwriters and arrangers in that rotation have stopped by the studio themselves.
The lava lamp is load-bearing.
