Ambient stretched over dub, jazz, folk and deep-tech.
Disruptive Rhythms broadcasts from the French Alps as a registered non-profit association rather than a business, and the design follows from that: no advertising, no sponsors, running costs met by listener donations, with anything left over going to environmental projects. Its reason for existing is a refusal — of algorithmic shuffle, and of the uniformity that sets in once a machine decides what follows what. Every track is chosen by hand, and the station holds that strict genre definitions are best avoided altogether.
Ambient is the thread, stretched about as far as that word will go: dubby downtempo, minimal deep-tech, beat-tape fragments, new releases sitting next to smoky obscurities and classic cuts. Four strands organise it — Délicieuse Vertige for ambient waves and beats, A Dab of Jazz for downtempo jazz, Roots Down for roots reggae and dub, Out On The Range for acid-tinged folk.
