Iberian guitars and Andalusian handclaps, from Scotland.
Manu Rodríguez, a writer who also taught workshops on creative and therapeutic writing, started Spanish Rock Shot in 2008 and relaunched it in 2018 as a bilingual community station out of Edinburgh. Its motto, Disparamos libertad, sets the register, and the mission it states for itself is a station cosmopolitan and provocative but with class, spontaneous, and open to anyone. The team reaches back to Spain: press and social media are run from a bookshop in Illescas, outside Madrid.
The day turns through blocks — Spanish and international rock through the morning and evening, Del Sur for real flamenco from the south, Sun Del Sur for salsa and Latin. Most nights Manu goes live for two hours from what he calls Disco Paradiso, soul, funk and disco with guests and phone calls. Offbeat, long-running by now, gives its hours to new songwriters.
Homesickness with a dancefloor.
