Radio art, sonification, and live experiments on DAB+.
P-Node came together in 2013 as an artist collective whose first act was switching on a streaming platform during a performance at Club Transmediale in Berlin. The idea it has worked on since is symmetrical radio — every node in the network receiving and transmitting rather than one transmitter talking down to an audience — with Tetsuo Kogawa's mini-FM experiments as the lineage. Backed by the association Circulaire, it took DAB+ frequencies in Mulhouse in January 2019 and in Paris the following spring.
What comes out of it is less a playlist than a patchwork: PureData sonifications of the server's own traffic, an index of modular synth archives read aloud, improvised concerts, festival relays from Sonic Protest and Tsonami, and streams that wear their politics on the sleeve. Residencies in Mulhouse put artists in front of the transmitter for weeks at a time.
