Techno, theory, and talk from Berlin's artist-run dial.
Diana McCarty and Pit Schultz started reboot.fm in 2004 out of the Bootlab media collective, and it has stayed in the hands of the people who make it — four permanent staff and something over 150 volunteer programme makers, working from the Künstlerhaus ACUD in Mitte after early years at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. It is non-commercial. The advisory board convened in 2012 has counted Hans Ulrich Obrist and Kodwo Eshun, and McCarty helped found radia.fm, the network of cultural stations it still belongs to.
Music and argument carry equal weight here: electronic sets set against magazines on gentrification, refugee rights and what the city does with public art. The interview archive runs from Hakim Bey to Coco Fusco, Gudrun Gut and Hito Steyerl. Since 2019 the licence has come through Radio Netzwerk Berlin, which reboot.fm set up with Cashmere and Wearebornfree!, sharing 88.4 in Berlin and 90.7 in Potsdam.
