Field recordings and radio art from the Dutch lowlands, 24/7.
Wijnand Bredewold works in installation, photography, video and radio out of Zwolle, and started Noise Radio because the Netherlands had no broad platform for sound art to speak of. The call went out deliberately open — artists at any stage of a career, anywhere, sending work in for review — with only aggressive, political, religious and sexually explicit material ruled out. It runs on a BUMA/SENA licence, carries no advertising, and everything it holds stays free to hear, live or from the archive.
The catalogue runs past four hundred names, from people with a single upload to founding figures of sound art and acoustic ecology. Six strands make up the programme: captured environments and urban texture, works that treat radio itself as the material, forests and water and wind, audio made as art rather than entertainment, scheduled relays from live performances, and a library to pull from on demand.
Nothing to hum, plenty to hear.
