Noise, minimal synth, and tapes nobody else aired.
Amber Kai Morgan and Garrett Kelly started Hollow Earth in 2007 as a stream out of a Phinney Ridge basement, then an attic in Wallingford, then a storefront on East Union in 2010. The FCC granted it a low-power licence in 2014, so after eight years online it finally reached the air as KHUH, and it broadcasts now on 104.9 from a room at the Black Lodge. The name comes from the old theory that the poles open onto an inhabited world underneath, which is roughly what the station does with music.
The brief is found sound, field recordings, bedroom demos and raw talent caught early: Audacious Bombacious runs noise, IDM and drone, Electrique Boutique digs late-70s minimal synth, Cycles Per Second takes shoegaze and indiepop, and Sonic Mosquito plays Northwest punk and grunge off one collector's own shelf. Every hour of it is put together by a volunteer who wanted to.
Imperfections, on purpose.
