Soca, dancehall and afrobeats, Bajan brunch radio.
FuseFM broadcasts from Barbados on the format the island's commercial radio has always run: soca and dancehall in the same hour as whatever is charting elsewhere, with the 246 in its name to say where it stands. Damar Dakarai fronts it — a recording artist with a catalogue of his own — holding the weekday brunch slot from ten to one, alongside DJ Rayne on Sunday evenings, DJ Muse on bashment and reggae, and D-Rock running operations behind them. An auto-DJ carries the hours nobody is at the desk.
The rotation splits about evenly. Machel Montano and Bunji Garlin, Ultimate Rejects, Beenie Man, Joeboy and Pheelz on one side; Lizzo, Sia, Kanye West and a standing weakness for Bill Withers on the other. Bajan artists get a look in — Vita Chambers, iNDRANi — and the named blocks give the week its shape: PUMP IT UP, New Releases, Praise and Worship, and From bout here and 'round de corner.
Half the island, half the charts.
