Radar Radio's collapse in 2018, after allegations of assault and tokenisation from the very people it had built its reputation on, left a hole in London's underground and a lesson about who a station is run for. Becky Richardson, Ami Bennett and Frankie Wells — three women with time behind them at Radio 1, 1Xtra, Capital Xtra and Radar itself — took both and opened their own in Peckham that November, redrawing the schedule as they went: breakfast pushed back to mid-morning, drivetime handed to a resident, not a format.
The grid leans club. House and techno carry the week, with UK garage, jungle and grime through the bass shows and gqom or amapiano wherever a resident takes it. Bimini and Art School Girlfriend hold slots, High Frequency with Yemz runs on guest pairs, and takeover weeks have pulled in Sherelle, Girls Don't Sync and Shannen SP. A label and an events programme run off the same roster.
The gatekeeping stops here.
