De naald wordt afgestoft…
Ambient and electronica first, then wherever the host goes.
NTS started in April 2011 in a former jazz record shop on Gillett Square in Dalston, after Femi Adeyemi lost his job and put around five thousand pounds into turning his Nuts To Soup blog into a radio station. His reasoning was that the pirates and the big stations were each locked onto their own narrow sound while London had far more taste than either would play, so NTS would play all of it and keep no music policy beyond hosts who really know their records. That still holds across both live channels and their 700-plus residents.
NTS 2 has no brief of its own, so what it sounds like depends on who is on. Ambient and electronica turn up most, with house, electro and techno close behind, yet a fortnight of the schedule also ran through R&B, jazz fusion, psych rock and the odd hour of black metal. Most of it is mixed with little or no talk, and residencies like Keel Her and Post-Geography sit next to guest slots and the NTS Guide To series.
The deep end of the dial.
