Deep funk and soul, from the originals to their heirs.
FIP autour du groove went online on 5 January 2016, the day FIP turned 45, as one of six themed webradios the Paris station opened at once. Each drew on a library of more than 250,000 tracks picked by FIP's programmers, and this channel's job was rhythm, the dance side of that collection running back through funk and Motown to disco. The longer name has since been trimmed to FIP Groove, but the programming still works like the main station's, by hand and one track at a time, with nobody talking over it.
More than half of what plays has come out since 2010, newer bands playing deep funk and soul as if the seventies never ended, next to a crop of young jazz-funk groups. The sixties and seventies records themselves still make up about a quarter of it. Nineties hip hop built on jazz samples turns up regularly, and so does the slower, smokier end of trip-hop and downtempo.
The bassline gets the last word.
