Shoegaze, techno, and Reno's DIY scene on the dial.
The Holland Project, Reno's all-ages DIY arts space, spent the better part of a decade chasing a frequency for the city, and it finally landed one with the Reno Bike Project and Wolf Pack Radio alongside it: KWNK signed on at 97.7 FM on Halloween 2017, licensed to Holland as a low-power community station and run on volunteer labor from the first hour. Two years and 500 members later it went to 24 hours a day, and it is the only music-oriented community station on the FM dial in northern Nevada.
More than eighty volunteer DJs fill the week an hour at a time. The Wolf keeps Reno's underground on air; NOLAS broadcasts in Spanish with the city's Chicano and Latino voices; Jazz Maneuvers sticks to 21st-century jazz; Under the Bridge Boogie runs techno, jungle and industrial; and Biggest Little Bands Radio plays the town's own bands and nothing else.
The Biggest Little signal.
