Radioeins was assembled out of two dead stations: on 27 August 1997 the rbb merged SFB's Radio B Zwei with ORB's Radio Brandenburg and put the result on 95.8 in Berlin, with further frequencies across Brandenburg and a DAB+ signal besides. It is made at Potsdam-Babelsberg and aimed, by its own slogan, only at adults — specifically at the listeners who had aged out of Fritz, the rbb's youth station next door. It draws listeners in the hundreds of thousands, and the music is pitched to that room.

The morning belongs to Der schöne Morgen, which took the German Radio Prize in 2010; Sanft & Sorgfältig gave Olli Schulz and Jan Böhmermann four years of it from 2012. Science and film get their own magazines, and evening shows come from the Bikini-Haus in Berlin. The station won an Echo in 2003 for a simple reason: its interviews ran four minutes longer than the national average.
