Aspeeetta...
Spolveriamo la puntina…
Americana, reggae, and punk under one Utah roof.
Stephen Holbrook, a Utah legislator who spent the 1960s arguing with KSL over who got heard on Salt Lake City radio, came back from Berkeley's KPFA determined to build the same thing at home. Listeners Community Radio of Utah incorporated in 1975 and put KRCL on the air on 3 December 1979 from rooms above the Blue Mouse bar — call letters that spell LCR backwards, on a $95,000 budget partly raised with Robert Redford's help, reaching the length of the Wasatch Front from an antenna Bonneville International gave them on Farnsworth Peak.
The promise is at least one Utah artist every hour, wrapped in Americana, blues and soul through the day, with specialists at the edges: Smile Jamaica on Saturday afternoons, Bluegrass Express on Sunday, Living the Circle of Life for Utah's indigenous music, NOVA FM for rock en espanol, and Friday Night Fallout, the state's longest-running hip hop show.
Utah, louder than you expected.
