Aspeeetta...
Spolveriamo la puntina…
The seventies and eighties, as Ghent first heard them.
The name comes from Pierre Van den Daele, a Ghent radio amateur who decided 6QR7 was a poor name for a station and borrowed Atlantis from an English pirate — or from a guitar-instrumental single of 1963, depending who tells it. He was on 194 metres of mediumwave in the mid-sixties, by local account from a boat on the Ghent–Terneuzen canal. Freddy Soetewey revived the name in Ledeberg on 28 March 1980, settled on 101 MHz, and by early 1981 was broadcasting every evening from the Kleine Kerkstraat.
From Langestraat 205 it filled the Ghent dial through 1981 and 1982, its most loved hour a request show presented in unbrushed local dialect that listeners fought to phone into. Seven equipment seizures and one protest car convoy later, it stopped in 1985. The stream plays the potpourri of old and new chart records it played then, German schlager running straight into British eighties pop.
Nostalgia with a criminal record.
