Aspeeetta...
Spolveriamo la puntina…
Estonian daytime pop, metal and amapiano by night.
It went on air on 1 May 1993 from the tenth floor of Tallinn's new Radio House, the first Estonian station to broadcast round the clock, and for its first decade it was a commercial youth channel with ad breaks like any other. The reform came in 2004 under editor Heidy Purga, who pointed it at fifteen- to twenty-nine-year-olds and dropped advertising entirely the following year. It has been the public broadcaster's pop and youth channel ever since, and the Aastahitt listener poll it runs has become the year-end verdict on Estonian music.
Days are the current rotation, Estonian releases carried as hard as international ones, with R2 Hommik! and R2 Päev holding the talk. After dark it splinters: Metallion for metal, Progressioon for long-running dance music, Troopikavöönd for amapiano, kuduro and cumbia, Buss 808 for bass, Tallinn Express for rap. A family of R2 Extra web channels runs alongside.
