Flex FMFlex FM

Flex came up on South West London's unlicensed frequencies in 1992, playing breakbeat hardcore and jungle while both were still being invented, and kept at it for over a decade. It stopped broadcasting in 2003 and stayed off for six years before starting again in 2009. Ofcom granted it a community licence in May 2017, and on 1 July 2018 it took 101.4 across the capital. DAB followed, and then Spain: the station now runs 106.1 in Tenerife and has opened up on the Costa del Sol.

The roster works the span its own history covers, house above all, then UK garage, drum & bass and jungle, through resident shows like DJ Crow, Noelsie and Sebadee, a weekday breakfast slot and Through The Night. Flex Academy trains people to do it, Flex TV films it, and the station throws its own parties, the latest of them a 34th birthday at XOYO.
