Tbilisi's caravan radio: post-punk, synth-pop, psych.
Tata Janashia and Nina Botchorishvili started Mutant in 2019 to put Georgia and the rest of the world within earshot of each other. The studio is a wagon parked inside a disused electrical substation in Tbilisi, which doubles as a bar and a venue and carries exhibitions and workshops alongside the broadcasts; a second, smaller room opened in Berlin in April 2025. When the protests came, the station shut its doors for a day and told its listeners to be out on the street instead of tuned in.
More than ninety residents and fifty guests a week pass through. The archive files itself under acid, IDM, krautrock, industrial and new wave, and the guest list has stretched from first-generation industrial to Detroit techno and freewheeling club eclecticism. Mass Hysteria, D'SASTER MOMENTS and Black Lodge Radio became regulars, and homegrown labels like AWWWARA bring Georgian instruments and folklore into it.
Georgia's loudest export to Neukölln.
