Hooold...
Dusting off the needle…
Chilled trap, chillhop, and woozy future soul.
Fluid joined SomaFM in 2015, one of six channels the network added that year, fifteen years after Rusty Hodge moved the project from a micropower transmitter at Burning Man to a full-time internet station in February 2000. By then SomaFM was working out of a converted warehouse in San Francisco's South of Market district, the neighbourhood it takes its name from, still funded entirely by listener donations and still carrying no advertising on any of its two dozen channels, then or since.
It sits at the point where instrumental hip-hop, chilled trap, woozy electronica and future soul run together — soft harmonies, deep bass, ethereal vocals, and percussion that stays busy underneath it all. SomaFM's own warning is that the channel is not recommended for anyone who happens to be operating heavy equipment, which is about right.
Melts the edges off the day.
