Athens electronica with a Balearic chill-out streak.
Best 92.6 came on air in Athens in 2001, and several of its early voices came over from Klik FM, the city's cult station of the nineties. Dimitris Papaspyropoulos, a club DJ since 1985, made the move that year and has been on the station ever since, and Maria Papidaki and Anna Anastasiou took much the same road. The frequency went quiet for a while in the early 2010s before coming back, and the station now belongs to the Attica Radios group alongside Athens DeeJay and Rock FM.
The hosts pick their own records, mostly journalists and DJs who have been at it for decades, with a lunchtime slot for Kostas Giannakidis, who cheerfully admits he has nothing to do with the station's music. Evenings belong to Alexandros Christopoulos, here since 2004 and the compiler behind the SUN:SET chill-out series, and at weekends DJs like Andrianos Pappadeas take over with house.
Built for the long drive home.
