674FM is run by the Radio 114 association out of a studio and concert room at Ubierring 13, and the people who make it describe the remit as everything from Ambient to Zollstock — which is to say the whole cross-section of what Cologne plays in its clubs, its bars and its living rooms. The station is funded by its own members and stays commercially independent, and rather than waiting to be invited somewhere it turns up wherever the city's culture happens to be happening that week.

Daytime comes out of the station's own music pool, selected rather than shuffled. Evenings belong to the hosts of more than a hundred shows — Drumbulanz, Holz House, a-musik Radio, Muschel Radio — covering disco, dub, drum and bass, house and techno, and in summer the whole operation decamps to a roof terrace above the Rheinpark to broadcast in the open air.
