Forgotten rock, raw electro, and sound art after dark.
Radiotónico came out of Mexico City's rock underground rather than a broadcast school, and the people behind the microphones had decades in it first. Brisa Vázquez co-founded the Bar Tutti Frutti and has drummed in a surf-punk band since 1994; Pepe Argil engineered for rock bands from the early eighties and ran the Rock N Roll Circus store and label through the nineties. The station they built is deliberately open — emerging voices and cultural collectives get slots alongside them, and nobody is asked to fit a format.
El Enigmático Lado B works through the rock canon's overlooked corners; Rock'n Roll Circus talks contraculture with the people who lived it; 20,000 Kilo-hearts, please! tracks the electronic scene at home and abroad; and Escombros plays cassettes, CDs and vinyl and stages live sets in the studio. Cemento Sonoro drops the music entirely for field recordings.
The scene, told by its survivors.
