Student radio since 1986, on 107. 9 round the clock.
RUC grew out of the Centro Experimental de Rádio, a 1940s project of Coimbra's academic association that trained technicians and piped programmes into the university canteens over internal wiring. The station proper was founded on 1 March 1986 and the licence came through in September 1988, putting it on 107.9 and keeping it there ever since. It was the first Portuguese news outlet written and run entirely by university students, and students have run the whole thing from the start.
Forty-odd music programmes carry the week, each with its own hosts: Loja de Discos works through records at the weekend, Jazzmatazz keeps a weekly jazz slot, then come Narita, Thermocline, Spinning Jenny, Ethereal, and Ruccies, which is on air every day of the week. The rest is five-minute bulletins, cultural magazines, and every Académica match live since 2001.
The country's only radio school.
