Lucerne's under-25 radio: rap, techno, and alt-rock nights.
The idea started in 1993 among Lucerne grammar-school pupils, with Attila Revesz pushing it; a test month followed in spring 1994 and a federal concession three years after that. At midday on 17 October 1998 the station went out properly, billing itself as the first youth radio in Europe. It is a non-commercial culture and training radio, and what keeps it young is the Altersguillotine: presenters under twenty-five, management under thirty. The station's word for the alternative is Sesselkleber.
Three music slots turn over every week — Klassiker der Woche, Album der Woche, Bestes Stück — which can put a nineties indie-pop single next to something released that week. AUX sits Lucerne musicians down with the records that formed them. The station's own categories run from ambient to Punk/Metal/Hardcore, and its Kick Ass Award goes to the best song made in Central Switzerland.
Youth radio that means it.
