Southeast Asian sounds, from folk roots to trance.
Hanoi got a community station in 2020, built on a simple premise — hand the hours to the artists, musicians and creatives already in the city — and the roster promptly outgrew the city. Residents file in from Saigon and from Malang in East Java, and other stations come in for takeovers, which is how a station named for one place ends up sounding like the whole region. Monthly live sets are broadcast from Hanoi bars, cafés and landmarks, and that slot is open to anyone willing to ask for it.
Trance has a steady corner through Transky's Trace To Trance, and Tùng's Sugar Sound Show runs disco, house and everything in between. Tộc Âm digs into where dance rhythms came from, DeconSEAS goes looking for the region's experimentalists and the artists folding folk into electronics, and The Lighthouse, from Saigon, hands its hour to a different DJ each time.
The region talking to itself.
