African Caribbean sound from the Dorset coast.
Two professional DJs, Raymond Nyenje and Sula Kasujja, started it in 2007 because African Caribbean music had nowhere of its own on the south coast. It runs now as a community interest company out of Bournemouth, reaching Poole and Christchurch, with volunteer presenters putting out more than thirty hours of live shows a week. Alongside the radio there are free youth workshops in DJing, production, poetry and lyric writing, run with partners like the Youth Empowerment Platform and Soundstorm.
Soul takes the most room — Soul In*Fusion, Soul Direction, The Soul Café, the UK Soul Chart — with R&B Central anchoring the weekdays and hours for afrobeats, dancehall, soca, jazz-funk and house. The station promotes its own events too: the Reggae Weekender at Kings Park, Reggae on the Bay at Shell Bay, and sunset cruises around Poole Bay.
Same five DJs since 2007.
