New Norwegian music first, from Oslo's student house.
It went on air on 16 March 1982, the first local radio in the city that was not run by a church, and has broadcast from Chateau Neuf, the student society building at Majorstuen, ever since. Around a hundred volunteers — journalists, technicians, producers — keep forty-odd programme slots filled, on film, literature, art, sport, academia and humour as well as music, and the station rents out its studios when nobody else is using them. FM ended in 2017; it has been DAB+ and online since.
Sort Kanal holds two long slots a week, and around it sit XO Hiphop, Country Barn, the spacesynth and italo of Midnight Magic, the house of MUD Session Radio and Jazzer om klassisk, plus a radio theatre and Opplysningen 99.3, named for the frequency they gave up. The fortnightly A-lista is where the music desk places its bets on fresh singles, most of them Norwegian.
Where Norway's pundits learned radio.
