Sound systems, guitars, and a festival to run.
Formed in 1984 out of the wreck of TransisTours, the region's first community station, it began transmitting in November 1985 without asking anyone, and the authorities shut it down in May 1986. The answer was a festival: Aucard de Tours, twelve bands in twelve hours on an island in the Loire, that June. The signal returned in November and stayed illegal until 1990, when inspectors seized the transmitter, two thousand people marched through Tours, and the licence arrived that October.
Forty-odd specialist shows share 93.6, and the station's rule is that the ear decides. Reggae'n'Juices, Inna Mi Box and 3R hold the Jamaican end, S.A.F.E and Captain Funk the soul and funk, Throne of Thanatos and Hellbanger the metal, Rock à la Casbah the guitars, Freeson and Électrons Libres the techno. Aucard has since grown into a festival of several days.
Concrete by name, loud by habit.
