Found sound, collage and noise from an art network.
DFM stands for deformatory radio, the phrase its founder Toek used for what he and a circle of Amsterdam producers were doing to sound: classical, techno, industrial and noise laid over each other until the joins stopped mattering. It came up through the city's squatted free-radio culture, the unlicensed stations broadcasting from occupied buildings since the early eighties, and has lived at different points as its own transmitter, as a show on Radio 100 and Radio Patapoe, and now as a stream that never signs off.
The roster broadcasts from home studios in Berlin, Devon, Montreal, Oakland and New York as well as the Amsterdam room, and the grid belongs to them: Marcelle's Another Nice Mess, Nootski's drone and noise on Poldersounds, TradeMark G. raiding the Evolution Control Committee's vinyl for Sound of Plaid, an hour from the Staalplaat label. Empty slots fill at random.
Anything but the commercial.
