Funk vaults, Muscle Shoals and two hours of metal.
Cygnus started in February 2005 out of Trumbull, Connecticut, built to give independent artists somewhere to be played on terms that suited the artists as much as the listeners, and it has stayed on that footing since IndepenDisc and the Connecticut music scene took it over in 2012. It is spread out rather than housed now: studios in Connecticut, Austin, Chicago, Long Beach and Amsterdam feed one 24-hour stream, and every hour belongs to a named host with nobody above them deciding what fits.
The Backroom runs funk, soul and R&B with Motown and horn-driven rock folded in; Southern Accents takes rock, rhythm and blues and country from Nashville, Memphis and Muscle Shoals; The Electric Blues Show does exactly what it says; MPH spends two hours a week in metal. The Local Bands Show and Tones of Texas exist mainly to play people nobody has heard of yet.
Every hour, somebody else's rules.
