De naald wordt afgestoft…
Celtic reels, deep soul, and blast beats on one dial.
CFCR exists because the University of Saskatchewan's campus station signed off in 1985 and a handful of its former hosts refused to let Saskatoon go without one. They incorporated the Community Radio Society of Saskatoon in 1986, borrowed studio time from Saskatoon Telecable to run on cable FM while the licence application crawled through the CRTC, and won the frequency in 1991. The first test broadcast opened with Stompin' Tom Connors and drew a complaint that there was too much Stompin' Tom; the full signal followed on 7 September.
The station still runs on its members — more than 600 of them, 150 to 200 hosting — and nobody programs a show but the person on air. Sounds of Scotland, the first program CFCR ever aired, is still on the grid beside Hot Buttered Soul, Venom & Leather and Bluegrass & Whatnot, with weekend blocks in several languages. The weekday Buzz brings hundreds of guests a year through for interviews and live-to-air sets.
Hosts pick every last song.
