Boom bap, jazz rap and golden-era cuts, Rio-side.
Rato Sujo began in 2019 as a WhatsApp group, a collective formed for no grander reason than spreading hip hop culture through Rio's rap scene, and the year after it spread out across Facebook, Instagram, Twitch and a stream of its own. It behaves like a crew rather than a station — Kinho, Smok, Anderson Aquim, DJ Maestro Android and Romer Vieira split the work of pushing it between them, and live sets go out billed to a named guest DJ rather than slotted into a grid fixed months in advance.
The selection sits in the golden era and stays there: boom bap, jazz rap, hardcore hip hop, and a heavy run of Brazilian rap alongside UK cuts that rarely travel this far. Live shows break the rotation — HipHop 100Pre with DJ V. Repp, Happy Hour Black pulling in guest DJs from the Rio scene — and requests arrive over WhatsApp rather than through any kind of form.
Nostalgia with the dust left on.
