Brooklyn boom bap, straight from Da Beatminerz.
DJ Evil Dee and Mr. Walt came up out of Bushwick in the early nineties as Da Beatminerz, the production team behind Black Moon's Enta Da Stage and Smif-N-Wessun's Dah Shinin' — the pair of records that settled what Brooklyn boom bap was going to sound like for everyone who followed. The radio show started in 1997 on 88HipHop.com, one of the few places anyone was streaming rap at all back then, and it never stopped; what began as a slot on someone else's platform is now a station of their own.
Mr. Walt still hosts, alongside Finsta, Almitra Gasper and Cynical Smith, and the live sets keep the arguing and the jokes in. Between shows the rotation runs golden-era and underground — O.C., Mobb Deep, Busta Rhymes, Rapsody — spliced with the station's own drops. Demos go to a Brooklyn address and an inbox, and somebody there actually sits down and plays them.
Same hands that made the records.
