Aspeeetta...
Spolveriamo la puntina…
House, jazz and hip-hop from a Navigli radio booth.
Six friends from unrelated trades started it in March 2017 — a promoter for independent English labels, two from marketing, a film director, a DJ and producer, and an events man — and named it after the character in Spike Lee's Do the Right Thing, the one whose boombox speaks for the block. The first studio was the window of a cocktail bar on Via Corsico, so passers-by along the canal could watch the DJ work. It now broadcasts from a booth inside Combo Milano on Ripa di Porta Ticinese.
A single week takes in indie, noise and post-punk, African electronica, a show that runs classical into hip-hop, ambient and free jazz. Verticale is the house speciality, a deep dive on one artist, genre or scene at a time — Battiato's experimental years, Alice Coltrane, Arvo Pärt, Arthur Russell, Ozzy Osbourne. Giorgio Valletta is past his three hundred and seventieth episode.
Milan, minus the fashion week.
